ABOUT THE WEEKEND'S EVENTS:
A Weekend of Beats, Books & Buckets Inspired by Kool Bob Love
Early Release of Bong Bong, Screening of Rock Rubber 45s, and a FC21™ 1v5 tournament in Atlanta
Get ready for a full weekend of culture and community as Atlanta hosts a two-day celebration inspired by the legendary Bobbito García. While “Kool Bob Love” himself won’t be in the building, his influence will be felt loud and clear across the city with two signature events honoring his groundbreaking contributions to basketball, film, music, literature, and beyond.
It all kicks off on Friday, June 27 with a special edition of DJ Rasta Root’s Smokin Shells Sessions at Block and Drum, headlined by the exclusive early release of the memoir Bobbito’s Book of B-ball Bong Bong (Edge of Sports/Akashic, 2025). This intimate book chronicles Garcia’s life as a ballplayer and global ambassador of the outdoor game—set against the backdrop of NYC’s playground culture amidst Hip Hop’s rise.
Bobbito García, known globally as “Kool Bob Love,” is a sneaker culture icon, DJ, filmmaker, and b-ball historian. From pioneering sneaker journalism to co-hosting the legendary “Stretch and Bobbito” show (now Radio Hall of Fame inductees), Bobbito continues to inspire generations with his creative hustle and deep cultural impact.
Friday’s guests will be treated to a screening of García’s autobiographical documentary Rock Rubber 45s, a deeply personal film that weaves together global sneaker, basketball, and music lifestyle through his experiences. The night wraps with a vinyl-only DJ set by DJ Mafioso, live congas from Conguero Grand Poppa, and high-energy hosting by Headkrack—a Hip Hop multi-hyphenate known for his wit, bars, and nationally syndicated radio voice.
Aishah Rashied Hyman and DJ Rasta Root are the event’s visionaries. Rashied Hyman is an award-winning public media executive and longtime concert and festival producer bridging culture and community at Atlanta’s most beloved events like Spread Love, Kickin Up Dust, and National Black Arts Festival. DJ Rasta Root, the architect behind Smokin Shells, is a seasoned producer and DJ whose vinyl-only sets honor the roots of Hip Hop and global rhythms. As the longtime manager of the late Phife Dawg (A Tribe Called Quest), his impact on music culture is both personal and profound.
DJ Mafioso, a Dominican-born DJ/producer who reps both Atlanta and his Queens, NY roots. His sets are a masterclass in rhythm and rhyme—raw, real, and deeply rooted in Hip Hop.
Conguero Grand Poppa brings rhythmic fire to the dancefloor with live percussion, and Headkrack, the Dallas-raised, Bronx-born Hip Hop artist and co-host of Dish Nation and The Rickey Smiley Morning Show, will keep the crowd hyped all night.
Block and Drum, the venue, is one of Atlanta’s premier cultural hubs, known for its mix of music, nightlife, food, and community events—all wrapped in indoor-outdoor flavor.
Then on Saturday, June 28: FC21™ 1v5 tournament at Snipes Peach Court
The celebration continues on Saturday, June 28 with a FC21™ 1v5 basketball tournament at the Snipes Peach Court inside Melvin Drive Park, presented in partnership with SNIPES, Court Kingz, and Art in the Paint.
This isn’t your average pick-up game—Full Court 21™ All World, created by Bobbito García, is the only 1-on-5 competition in the world. It’s gritty, glorious, and open to high schoolers and adults of all backgrounds.
Court Kingz, founded in 2007, is a streetball movement designed to uplift youth through faith-centered, community-based events.
Art in the Paint uses art and athletics to promote wellness, equity, and joy in communities. Known for their vibrantly painted basketball courts across Atlanta, they believe that sports and creativity together can transform public spaces and public health.
SNIPES, a global leader in sneaker and streetwear culture, refurbished the Peach Court at Melvin Drive Park as part of their commitment to community. With deep roots in Europe and a growing U.S. presence, SNIPES partners with artists and athletes to uplift urban culture—one court, one city at a time.
