Atlanta has always had its own ideas.
About music. About style. About art. About Culture..
ARTlanta is three days devoted to those ideas.
The flagship event of the I'M SO ATL™ Citywide Public Art Campaign brings visual artists, DJs, installations, murals, records and people together at Historic Fourth Ward Park for a weekend built around the creative language of Atlanta.
Not an Atlanta-themed festival. An Atlanta festival. The distinction matters.
Expect curated DJ sets instead of playlists. Full songs instead of snippets. Vinyl and 45s. Favorites next to deep cuts and B-sides. Murals, artistic builds and installations from creatives working across the city.
Some things you'll recognize immediately. Some things you'll discover when you get there.
Thirty years ago, ATLiens sounded like Atlanta imagining somewhere else. Now we're bringing it back outside.
Saturday's Feature Presentation celebrates the 30th anniversary of OutKast's 2x Platinum sophomore album, ATLiens, with something deliberately simple:
The complete album.
Unedited. Uninterrupted. Under the Atlanta night sky.
Light and projection works created by Atlanta artists will accompany the listening experience, turning the park into a visual interpretation of the record rather than another concert stage.
The hours leading into it move through Atlanta's musical catalog—favorites, B-sides, deep cuts and records that deserve to be played all the way through.
It's Halloween so of course we're having a costume party. The assignment: Atlanta, interpreted however you see it. Come '90s. Come futuristic. Pull something obscure out of the city's memory. Or ignore the assignment completely.
